Twin Prov - Sarah Davies and Julie Flower
Twinprov is a UK-based duo, founded by Sarah Davies and Julie Flower in 2017. They delight in creating multiple weird, wonderful, and gloriously human characters, with a strong sense of place. Often surreal, always joyful, Twinprov bring misunderstandings, mayhem…and matching dresses! They have performed their work widely, including at Amsterdam Improv Marathon, the Global International Improv Symposium and SNIF23 in Oslo! They have also taught workshops at festivals and taken their Chekhov’s Pie workshop to Theater Ida in Zurich, Cornerstone Improv in San Diego and the SNIF24 festival in Oslo.

Chekhov’s Pie: Improv and Risk-taking with Twinprov
Who: Twin Prov aka Sarah Davies and Julie Flower
What: Improv & Risk Taking Where: LJMU - Joe H Makin Drama Centre (Next door to Unity Theatre) When: Sunday the 27th of April – 10am-12pm Tickets: £22.50 + booking fee SOLD OUT |
A challenging, ridiculous and super-fun workshop, based on the key building blocks of Chekhov’s Pie, an innovative new format created by UK-based improv duo Twinprov (Sarah Davies and Julie Flower).
Responding to famous playwright Anton Chekhov’s quote: ‘If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired. Otherwise don't put it there’, this format asks the all-important question that’s been missing from improv…. what if the gun were replaced by a custard pie? This workshop is an opportunity to interrogate what it means to set and play with audience expectations, and how we can take theatrical risks as performers. It is suitable for all levels of experience, as you will be able to specifically identify your own improv risks, and push yourself to begin overcoming them in a safe and supportive space. We will be experimenting with how to create grounded and connected scenes which focus on relationships and truth, all the while waiting for a (literal!) pie in the face*! This will include considering what risks look like to you in improv, and how you can challenge yourself to take more of them, in service of the scene. Wear old clothes, and prepare to get messy; physically and emotionally*! *consensually, of course – volunteers only! |
