The fool is nothing so it can become everything. In this workshop you will be encouraged to shape shift!
What’s the difference between a clown and a fool? Ah that’s easy. Two o's. What? Yes, two o's. The 2 o's are like little globes, there to remind us that there is an inner and an outer world, that each person we meet in the audience has their inner world that they sit in, as they watch us strut our stuff across the stage. One 'O' is the king’s fortified realm and the other is the watery, amorphous, reflective world of the fool. Every Fool has a King to answer to. Do you ever find yourself arguing with yourself? Relentlessly bickering as if, inside you lived an old married couple or a pair of squabbling siblings. Do you have a sense of Your King, are they the one that wears the face? or do they send a messenger (the usual you) to meet the public? Are they fair, ruthless, devious, virtuous, reluctant, bored? Whatever they are, there is a bright shiny part of you, who is able to speak with 'Your Highness’ and put them at ease. To re-pair yourself through play. They can be really quite good humoured and very funny, if your fool learns how to work with them. In this workshop you will be encouraged to find a way to play your King and play your Fool and play in general. Now back to those o's if you squint your eyes, they seem to be joined, like a recumbent figure of 8. Connected. Just as all our little weeny worlds, we try to keep private, are in fact connected. It’s the fools job to flip the figure of 8 open, into one big 'O’, and bring everyone together with laughter and feeling just for a while. We will explore how to stand up and see ourselves in the audience creating in-to-me -see. To be in the moment and feel held by a structure and be surprised by the plays that land on the stage- propelled by these gentle interactions. These are the first and second stages of the structure which is as far as we will get in our short time together. Fooling is a seven-stage structure for navigating the inner world and taking the audience with you, drawing scenes on the stage using the audiences imagination, and stepping into them and moving further and further back to the place where the un human and the world of influence lives. In this workshop you will become many things, people objects, archetypes, atoms, landscapes who knows! Using your body, your words and the audience’s imagination you will experiment with how to paint spontaneous on the stage using the audiences mind. The workshop will be fun and full of discovery. Joanne creates a space in which silliness is celebrated. |
